Influenza Vaccine

The influenza vaccine protects against viruses that cause the flu. There are two types of flu vaccines—inactivated (flu shot) and live intranasal (mist that is sprayed into the nostrils).

Immunization schedule—Yearly influenza immunizations are recommended for children who have chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, HIV/AIDS, or children on long-term aspirin therapy. This vaccine should not be given to children with an allergy to eggs or egg products.
